Reading what’s not there

I’m currently reading what’s not there,
It’s taken too long to see
Between the lines there are gaps
Gaps that say so much,
It’s what I’m not told
The things not said
The omissions waiting to reveal
The things I shouldn’t know,
But the whole picture seldom is complete
So you’ll forgive me please
For reading into what’s not been said
For pillaging your silent ways,
But now I know
Truth can come half cooked,
And though I found no lies
(except lies of omission)
I perceived big gaps
Like a paint by numbers scene
Left half undone
The picture remaining incomplete
The story needs retelling,
And now my eyes are opened wide
To know what is not there
I think I’ll end a wiser man
And the world will be more revealing.
