Imagine you looked God straight in the face
And you saw a twinkle in Her eye
Bemused you knew this look as mischief
You wanted to understand why?
But if you possessed all human wisdom
Would the reason still pass you by?
Or would you find your heart concerned
Just maybe your beliefs are really a lie
Imagine you were met with resignation
When peering on God’s face
Would you feel a heart felt panic
That He’s finally lost hope for the human race
Would you make a religious commitment
Give away all possessions just in case
Seek confession for that list of sins
Make sure you leave no trace
Imagine God turned Her back
Because she’s knew she could take no more
That omnipotence, omniscience and all that stuff
Actually weren’t a divine law
All the things you long relied upon
You’d just witnessed walking out the door
And now there is a gapping hole
Between you and what you felt so sure
Maybe, just maybe you should pause
Take time to think before you look
Know the mirror doesn’t hide a lie
Honesty’s never been a popular book
Plus all those things you told yourself
Things you called truth you mistook
And the liberties we assumed on God
We will really wish we never took
I could only imagine. And truly, that imagination made me see that I should for sure stop displeasing God. If I were to see resignation on his face, I’d hide my face from his in shame and never find the energy to face him in prayer. I think God knew we all would and that’s why he hid himself from us. Glad to be able to read you, dear friend.
