Issac

When Abraham raised his hand to strike
What terror filled Isaac’s heart
The knife would be plunged with all Abe’s might
But the patriarch knew he’d cause God’s delight
And nothing mattered more

Have you seen a child eyes wide with fear
Have you heard the laboured breath
The form of that first innocent tear
The role of protector becoming quite unclear
Strange we call God father?

In later life was Issac emotionally scarred?
What would a physiologist have to say?
About the incident that surely scared
Of questions concerning if the parents cared
I wonder if social services got involved?

And something doesn’t sit quite right
Why God needed the test
Did all knowing God the infinite
Have Abraham’s faithfulness hidden from His sight?
Or was this test of Abe’s creation?
