The Last Year To Come

Dear Pogue,

So here we are at the commencement of a New Year and we’re all resolutioned up. All those things we intend to do to improve life. Weight to lose, fitness to gain, bad habits to shed. We do it every year and then, round about the third week of January begin to flag. The weight creeps back. Such is life.

But imagine that this year was our last year on this earth. Come the 31st December 2022 that was it😳. Time over.

How would we live our lives, really live our lives, during this year?

What would you do?

How much would you up your game. One thing I know is that we would live a very different kind of year than the one just gone how ever good it was.

So I’m going to ask you to spend some time to think about what you would do if you only had one year left. Would you cast off your inhibitions and go for it? Would you cease to worry about what others were thinking? Maybe you’d find purpose like never before.

Whatever, I’m finishing here and I’ll write again soon, once you’ve thought. Oh, and remember this is an exercise so don’t go straight out and spend all your savings on that Harley Davidson just in case the Universe decides it would like a 2023. I know it’s tempting.

Don’t forget, dance like no one is watching, love like you’ll never get to love again and laugh often and with vigour. Let kindness guide your actions, kindness to others and yourself.

Yours, planning the best year yet,

Wic.

  1. This clearly stunned me! If i had one year left to live, what would i do? 🤔 M’hhh.. only God knows. It wouldn’t be easy on me, hah. And then there’s this beautiful inspiring ending, o charming pogue, “Don’t forget, dance like no one is watching, love like you’ll never get to love again and laugh often and with vigour. Let kindness guide your actions, kindness to others and yourself.” What a great way to show us the truth! It landed deeply and passionately in my heart. I’ll always remember that. 😇💫👏

  2. Food for thought – very worthy thoughts – indeed!

LOVE the parting shot : ”Don’t forget, dance like no one is watching, love like you’ll never get to love again and laugh often and with vigour. Let kindness guide your actions, kindness to others and yourself.”

    YES YES YES!

    Great post, Wic! ❤
