Monday Musing

Morning Pogue,

Last week I wrote in my letter about the quote I had found:;

QUOTE

A society grows when old men plant trees that they will never live to sit under.

and how we should embrace this sentiment for the betterment of ourselves and society at large.

Notice how I got to use the quote twice in a week. Good move or what? Let’s hope that it’s finding some traction. There’s far worse that the world adheres too!

Well, having written the Musing I received an email from a friend in America (when will people go back to using pen and paper – much more personal if you ask me). Having read the Musing and being immersed in personal tragedy she asked if I would plant a tree. You see, someone close to her had passed away and planting a tree would be an engaging way of remembrance and a token of a life well lived. More than that, it is a continuance of life for, as you know, all is energy and energy never ceases to exist, it just changes form.

I will plant a tree and I will think of that life whenever I look upon it even though I never knew the person. After all, as so many religious text insist, we are all one despite the fact that most do everything to deny this as they strive for independence. Remember that this whole letter writing endeavour began when I wrote:

Enlightenment is when the wave realises it is the ocean

Thich Nhat Hanh

It’s that struggle for independence that blinds us to this truth and prevents us from realising our true potential and the source of all peace. It is only in death that many will come to know this fact.

But I need to ask my friend a question as I close this musing. When you ask me to plant the tree, one which I will never benefit from sitting under, you won’t inferring I am an “old man” were you?

Yours, doing something noble,

Wic
