Hi Pogue,
Rock on!
This week I’ve been listening to the music of Carlos Santana, particularly the Supernatural and Sharman albums.
I’ve enjoyed the music of Santana for many years and bought a number of albums but there came a point when the tracks were becoming somewhat repetitive and, well, there was nothing new. So I stopped buying albums and continued to listen to earlier material which was always full of life and originality. I guess each of us only has so much creativity to offer🥺.
Carlos stopped achieving sufficient sales to earn even silver record awards and for maybe 10 years he and the group seem to have slipped off the radar. He had given some great music to cherish and now his time was over. But no!
In 1999, 17 years after he had a record that achieved an award and 7 years after his last album Carlos Santana released Supernatural. It was immense! It went platinum all over the world and relaunched a slumbering career.
So where did he find a new lease of life?
I remember listening to an interview where this question was put to the great man and he replied something to the effect that he knew there was more creativity in him. That he needed time to discover it and harness it and he was prepared to take that time. He sounded quietly confident that he was about to deliver something significant.
Here’s a track from the album. Why Don’t You And I, Santana with Chad Kroeger which I’m hoping you’ll like.
And here I have found an important life lesson. That, despite the doctrine of the world, that there’s an age when we start to write people off as no longer relevant and having nothing to offer, we can go on for as long as we believe we can. The end of our potential only come when we say so and believe it. Don’t let others write you off and don’t base your worth and ability on the thoughts of others. Like Carlos, your best might yet be to come. Don’t write off old guys! There’s still some badass left to get out😎
So, enjoy the music and believe in yourself and the fact that maybe you haven’t yet achieved your best.
Wic.
