Morning Pogue,
I’ve been off the grid doing a trek in the Himalayas. Just a small trek but I was really away from the world and it was nice.
Whilst trekking we visited a number of mountain settlements and observed the way the people live. They still cook over open fires, collect water from a communal place and eat what they can grow. Possession are minimal and of little value by Western standards. And gradually the young people are migrating away to the cities.
So left with my thoughts and little else (a very dangerous state of affairs) I have been musing over the world and whilst doing so remembered this piece I read some years ago. All the Musing we need for this week I think.
If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of the world.
If you have money in the bank, your wallet, and some spare change you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.
If you woke up this morning with more health than illness you are more blessed than the million people who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the agony of imprisonment or torture, or the horrible pangs of starvation you are luckier than 500 million people alive and suffering.
If you can read this message you are more fortunate than 3 billion people in the world who cannot read it at all.” ~ Unknown

Wow, sounds like an incredible experience trekking in the Himalayas! It’s amazing to see how different cultures and ways of life can be so eye-opening and humbling. The piece you shared is a great reminder to be grateful for what we have. Sometimes we can get caught up in what we don’t have or what we want, but it’s important to take a step back and appreciate the things we often take for granted. Thanks for sharing and welcome back from your adventure!

One of the things about being here is you can easily and unwittingly go off the grid. So I wrote the next post before being able to read your comment. I felt confirmed in what I have written, as you will see. Thank you for taking time to comment, it’s appreciated😎
